DAY 4
July 17, 2022 (Tivoli Gardens)
LET'S CLEAR THIS UP ONCE AND FOR ALL...
You may think, like some members of the group, that this phrase that you see all around Copenhagen called “HYGGE” is possibly my last name pronounced “HIGGY”
Sadly, I cannot claim any rights to Copenhagen (although I am looking into the requirements for moving here).
It appears this word is pronounced “HOO-GUH”. I was forced into getting this shirt under the rationale that this is definitely some version of HIGGS and it would mark the moment. So be it – IT WAS BOUGHT!
This phrase means the following: The Danish way to live well, creating a cozy atmosphere and enjoying the simple things in life. Another version of this is “The Danish ritual of enjoying life’s simple pleasures. Friends, Family, Graciousness, Contentment, Good feelings and a warm glow.”
And do you know what, I think that is what life should be all about anyway…..Where can I learn Danish….
AND SO THE DAY STARTS...
Day three starts as day 2 did – with the mouth-watering buffet breakfast in the hotel lobby at 7:45 am. Because we did not have to gather until 10am, many in the group chose to sleep in a little longer – more eggs and bacon for me….
Another hearty breakfast is recommended as we will spend the entire day in the Tivoli Gardens – one of Europe’s oldest theme parks.
There we will find lots of flowers, gardens and various rides ranging from the carnival type to full-fledged roller coasters, along with dozens of restaurants.
TIVOLI GARDENS AWAITS...

At 10am we gathered in the lobby to get our passes for the gardens, along with some money for dinner.
And off we went!
Literally a 5-minute walk from the hotel, this was the most perfect location we could have stayed.
After maneuvering traffic lights, pedestrian crossings and stops for traffic, we were finally at Tivoli Gardens, queued up and ready to go.
At 10:50am we were let in to explore the park.
We were greeted at first with a spectacular ceiling of orchids hanging overhead as we walked the main strip into the park – dazzling peach flowers hung right above our heads.
As we walked through the park, the flowers and gardens were spectacular.
It only took a moment before the roller coasters caught some of our attention.
And in a matter of minutes we were at the kiosks buying bands for the rides for the day!
First up – the DEMON – the roller coaster that turned upside down – 4 brave souls took the plunge, one of which was myself.
This would turn out to be one of many rides that many of us went on today.
Others included a slow ride underground to learn about the stories of Hans Christian Anderson, Swings and 4 brave souls did the DROP (named for what happens to your heart when you take the plunge).
Some of us went on rides you would never have expected but…
… as someone said…
YOLO – WHEN WILL YOU GET TO COME TO TIVOLI GARDENS EVER AGAIN?
COULDN'T MISS THE DESSERTS!
Our lunch stop of chicken and fries would not be complete unless we had some dessert, and thanks to our Whatsapp Chat, we were notified of this FANTASTIC upscale, high-end dessert place called CAKENHAGEN (like Copenhagen), that we HAD to try.
And so we did – the beauty and art of all of the desserts made it hard for us to eat – they were all so beautiful. Brownies, banana bread, crème puffs, cake, apple pie, and other desserts we had never heard of or seen before.
PASTA, PASTA AND PIZZA...
After leaving the gardens for the day, we discovered an Italian Restaurant literally a 3-minute walk from the hotel named Restaurant L’ Appetito.
After the disappointment of the Italian restaurant near the hotel in the opposite direction being closed today, google maps was our friend.
So as the gang of 10 was getting ready, I took out my phone and quickly clicked a few buttons and made dinner reservations for 10 and off we went.
We had a variety of pastas with chicken and salmon, Caesar salad, and pizza – authentically Italian.
STAY TUNED FOR TOMORROW...
Day 4 is done and at the start of Day 5 on Monday morning, June 18, we head out bright and early towards the dock to take a boat to HAMBURG, GERMANY!
